Listen to Republicans
Are there truly any remaining on-the-fence voters who are still weighing their Election Day options? If there are, here are some folks to listen to.
The word “unprecedented” has gotten a workout for the last 8 or 9 years. Trump has regularly broken laws but, equally as important, he’s broken norms — the norms that were so universal, so rooted in tradition and basic human decency that no one had previously thought we needed to enshrine those norms as laws.
The response to Trump’s aberrant behavior has also been unprecedented. For example, no living former Republican President or Vice President is endorsing Trump for a second term, including his own Vice President.
Trump has never won the popular vote. He lost the election in 2020. Most House and Senate candidates that Trump endorsed in midterm elections have lost their bids for office.
All of that leaves Trump with very few options for this run for the White House. So he has made quite a gamble. He’s betting that he can attract more first time voters or disaffected voters than the number of Republicans who will abandon him and, in many cases, will abandon the party.
