MAGAs Eating Their Own

The infighting among Trump's own most ardent supporters is ramping up. For now, at least, Democrats and progressives are sitting back and watching the show.

The issue of immigration was one of the primary reasons that Donald Trump prevailed in the November 5th election. Trump and his cronies bellowed about illegal immigration as loudly and as frequently as they could.

They described those seeking asylum in the United States as criminals. They characterized “dreamers” — children of undocumented immigrants who were brought here by their parents, sometimes as young as infants — as criminals. They made no distinction between the dreamers and those undocumented immigrants who were, in fact, criminals.

Trump has appointed Tom Homan as “border czar,” a title in search of legitimacy, and a role that MAGAs liked to pretend Vice President Kamala Harris was assigned. Homan, as the former director of ICE, was a driving force behind the family separation policy during the first Trump administration. Locking children in cages became acceptable “border enforcement” on his watch.
