Vetting? What Vetting? Who Needs Vetting?
The slapdash method that Trump has used for choosing his cabinet nominees should terrify all of us. Unfortunately, it may not terrify enough Senators.
Trump knows best. Trump always knows best. Because he’s smarter than anyone else, on any and every subject. There’s no such thing as subject matter expertise; Trump is somehow divinely gifted so that he always knows better than any experts. After all, common sense is better than education or knowledge or experience.
That’s been the message of Donald Trump’s campaign, and that’s the premise that he has used to bamboozle his cultists into supporting him.
His second term hasn’t even begun, yet we’re already seeing gaping holes in that premise. His refusal to authorize the FBI to vet his nominees for cabinet positions and roles in his administration is already backfiring on him.
He’s making these nominations as if he were picking people to sell overvalued condominiums in one of his tacky high rises. We’ll try ’em out and see what happens.
